Chirp Skate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the Chirp Skate mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

Email address and password (used to create and authenticate your account)
Display name (optional, set by you)

App data you create

Purchase records: store name, item name, price, quantity, date
Categories and items you create
Household name and member email addresses you invite
Receipt images you choose to upload for scanning

Device data

Camera access — used only when you scan a barcode or receipt. Images are not stored unless you choose to submit them.
Biometric data — used only for local app lock authentication. Biometric data never leaves your device.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and sync your purchase tracking data across devices
To enable household sharing with members you invite
To scan and parse receipts using AI (Google Gemini) to extract item data
To look up product names when you scan a barcode (via Open Food Facts)
To send household invitation emails on your behalf
To manage your subscription status

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not sell your data to third parties.

A local copy of your data is also stored on your device using encrypted local storage to enable offline access.

4. Third-Party Services

Chirp Skate uses the following third-party services:

Google Firebase — authentication, database, and file storage (Privacy Policy)
Google Gemini AI — receipt image analysis (Privacy Policy)
Open Food Facts — barcode product name lookup (Privacy Policy)
SendGrid (Twilio) — invitation email delivery (Privacy Policy)
RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management (Privacy Policy)

5. Camera Permission

Chirp Skate requests camera access for two features:

Barcode scanning — to look up product names by scanning a barcode. No image is stored.
Receipt scanning — to photograph a receipt and extract purchase data using AI. The image is sent to Google Gemini for processing and is not retained after analysis.

You can deny camera permission at any time in your device settings. These features will be unavailable without camera access.

6. Household Sharing

When you invite someone to your household, their email address is stored in our database solely to deliver the invitation and grant access. Household members can view shared purchase data as permitted by the household owner.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account within the app. Deleting your account permanently removes all your data from our servers within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

Chirp Skate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
